Introduction to Woodturning (Lathe)
This course will be delivered alongside a woodworking II course. Each turning course will consist of two students for two nights with one dedicated turning instructor. Students will share time on the shop's lathe.
Students may be asked to attend an online session in advance of class in order to understand some basics prior to spending time in the shop.
This course will introduce participants to the basics of the ancient art and craft of woodturning. You will learn what equipment is required to turn wood objects such as spindles, bowls, and a variety of other items. We will discuss the function of the woodturning lathe and various tools such as gouges, skews, and scrapers. This is a hands-on class. Tools and supplies provided to complete a simple mallet and bowl. Safety Card not required for this course.

Wood shop safety orientation
Do not take this course if you are planning on attending the Introduction to Woodworking class. This class is for experienced woodworkers only, who would like to use the wood shop on a drop-in basis. This one time class will acquaint you with the safety procedures of the wood shop and the safety concerns with each major piece of equipment. The Safety Card will be given upon completion of this course.
