Everything's a box (or how to make anything out of wood) - The Box Making bootcamp
Prerequisite: Bronx Park Woodshop Safety Card
In woodworking, it is said that “everything’s a box.” Realistically, this is true 95% of the time. Box-making teaches fundamental skills that apply to every woodworking project. You’ve learned how to use the tools in a woodworking shop; now, learn how to make just about anything out of wood. This intermediate class is the ideal next step after completing our Introduction class.
We will make 3 boxes, with each box teaching a different joinery method.
We will construct:
- Slide-top pencil box with rabbet joinery
- Mitre-spline box with hinged top
- Boarded box (nails)
Please note: Safety cards ARE required for this course

Introduction to Woodturning (Lathe)
This course will be delivered alongside a woodworking II course. Each turning course will consist of two students for two nights with one dedicated turning instructor. Students will share time on the shop's lathe.
Students may be asked to attend an online session in advance of class in order to understand some basics prior to spending time in the shop.
This course will introduce participants to the basics of the ancient art and craft of woodturning. You will learn what equipment is required to turn wood objects such as spindles, bowls, and a variety of other items. We will discuss the function of the woodturning lathe and various tools such as gouges, skews, and scrapers. This is a hands-on class.
